One way to build a strong team culture is to learn how the team views itself. In this episode, Leigh Ann Rodgers talks about how assessment helps leaders in building a highly productive team. She explains the five components of the Better Teams Model that she has created.

“If people aren’t happy, it doesn’t matter how hard they’re working, team success will not be sustainable.  In order to have a team that is working well, you’ve got to have both.” – Leigh Ann Rodgers

Working with Teams

Every team has a different need and expectation. One of the things she finds really helpful is to use a team assessment. Teams review their assessment results and then decide where they are working well and what their opportunities are.

“The ultimate goal is to have a clear action step the team is accountable for.” – Leigh Ann Rodgers

Using the Team Assessments

Leigh Ann has worked with teams that were really resistant to team building and with very low trust levels. Reviewing a team report opens the door to powerful conversations about how the team is working. These conversations empower the team to determine what actions they want to take to be a high-performing and happy team.

“In order to get the team’s buy-in to improve team dynamics, the ideas have to come from the team; not from the leader or a consultant or a human resource person coming in and telling them what to do.”

– Leigh Ann Rodgers
